He has won prizes, including the RNCM Concerto Competition, the Phillip Crawshaw Memorial Prize in Royal Over-seas League Music Competition (UK), Illinois MTNA Young Artist Woodwind Competition and the Evanston Music Club and North Shore Musicians Club Competitions in the USA. He is also one of the very few Hongkongers to have appeared in prestigious competitions like the Adolphe Sax International Competition and the Andorra International Saxophone Competition.
Having performed in more than ten countries across three continents, Alvin has a diverse performance portfolio. His appearances include the World Saxophone Congress, international festivals, and funded UK tours, with programmes that champion both traditional repertoire and new works, often featuring premieres and cross-cultural collaborations.
As a composer and arranger, Alvin Wong creates music that reflects a distinct artistic voice shaped by his experience as a performer. A finalist in the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild's "New Generation" Competition, his works have been premiered internationally, including broadcasts on RTHK Radio 4 and performances at the World Saxophone Congress. He has received commissions for ensemble and orchestral works, alongside producing arrangements for concert performance. Through both composition and arrangement, he contributes to expanding and reimagining the contemporary saxophone and chamber repertoire.

Currently maintaining a private teaching studio, Alvin Wong is an experienced educator with over 7 years of teaching across the UK and Hong Kong, working with students of all levels in woodwind, piano and music theory. With trainings previously from leading institutions, he brings a thoughtful, engaging approach that emphasises creativity, musical understanding, and individual expression, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Alvin completed his bachelor's degree at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and holds a masters degree in saxophone from the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University USA. He then furthered his study at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, Belgium; and now at the Royal Northern College of Music, in Manchester UK where he currently resides in.
